Disappeared

Some Argentines bound a figure between two posts
Suspended there thought of Christ
Their naked Jesus seems strangely known
I wondered if he was a Disappeared

In a secret jail scene Argentines moaned
their thin groanings uselessly sliding through the bars

Not for US do they cry as our homes leak dry
as our threatened ones attempt to disappear

Will they be US navigating toward Fear
when ev'ry terrorist will be a Disappeared
and ev'ry silence in our homes will be for vanished ones
displayed between posts like the Argentines

What does it take to kill but to own one bullet
one that's aimed at the thinking-head

What does it take to rape another
but the need to release sperm to seal a womb

Tortures are employed to protect the land
so that those who are privileged keep the market growing
Thus a body of blood mingling with the flood
is the heroic act offered to the Lord

It's necessary that these things be done
less the Disappeared believe they have won
